Traditional Anti Wind Damp Medicinal Liquor
风湿经典药酒 / 풍습치료 전통약선주
“Wind–Damp Dispelling Medicinal Wine”
Wind-damp medicinal wines commonly use herbs such as Duhuo (独活), Weilingxian (威灵仙), Wujia-pi (五加皮), Sangjisheng (桑寄生), and Danggui (当归).
These formulations dispel wind and dampness, promote blood circulation, and unblock the meridians.
Prescriptions for wind-damp medicinal wine must be selected according to individual constitution and pattern differentiation.
Herbal combinations are generally divided into three major categories:
- wind-damp dispelling herbs,
- liver-kidney tonifying herbs,
- blood-activating and stasis-removing herbs.
1. Wind-damp Dispelling Category (祛风除湿类)
• Duhuo + Weilingxian
A classic combination:
- Duhuo is warm, pungent, slightly bitter; excels at treating wind-dampness in the lower body.
- Weilingxian is warm and salty, unblocks meridians, relieves pain.
Combined, they strongly dispel wind-dampness and are suitable for:
- Cold arthralgia
- Restricted joint movement
• Qin Jiao + Fangfeng
- Qin Jiao dispels wind-damp without causing dryness.
- Fangfeng releases the exterior and expels wind.
This combination is effective in early-stage wind-damp with simultaneous exterior symptoms.
2. Liver–Kidney Tonifying Category (补益肝肾类)
• Sangjisheng + Niuxi
- Sangjisheng tonifies liver and kidney, strengthens tendons and bones.
- Niuxi guides the formula downward and activates blood circulation.
• Duzhong + Xuduan
Strengthens tendons and bones; suitable for:
- Chronic conditions with deficiency
- Soreness/weakness of the lower back and knees (腰膝酸软)
Note: Tonifying herbs must be used together with wind-damp dispelling herbs.
Using tonics alone may trap pathogenic dampness inside.
3. Blood-Activating / Anti-stasis Category (活血化瘀类)
• Danggui + Chuanxiong
Tonify and invigorate blood.
Used for chronic wind-damp with blood stasis, such as:
- Stabbing joint pain
- Pain worsening at night
• Honghua + Jixueteng
Enhances meridian flow.
Contraindicated in pregnancy.
Blood-invigorating herbs should be paired with Qi-tonifying herbs (e.g., Huangqi) to avoid depleting Qi and blood.
4. Meridian-warming / Cold-dispersing Herbs (温经散寒类)
• Guizhi + Fuzi
Suitable for severe cold-damp obstruction:
- Guizhi warms the channels
- Fuzi disperses cold and relieves pain
• Xixin + Ganjiang
Reinforce warming and dispersing functions.
Caution in patients with Yin-deficient heat.
These herbs require strict dosage control and medical supervision.
5. Heat-Clearing / Damp-Removing Herbs (清热除湿类)
• Huangbai + Cangzhu
The classic base of the formula “Ermiao San (二妙散)”.
Indicated for damp-heat arthralgia with:
- Redness
- Swelling
- Heat
- Pain in the joints
• Fangji + Yiyiren
Enhance damp‐eliminating effects.
For spleen Qi deficiency, combine with spleen-tonifying herbs.
Heat-clearing herbs are not suitable for long-term use; once symptoms improve, adjust the prescription.

About Fresh Wasp (生马蜂)
“生马蜂” refers to the reproductive and developmental stages of wasps, including larvae and pupae, and is closely related to the wasp’s life cycle and nesting behavior.
Basic Information About Wasps (马蜂)
1. Biological Classification
Wasps belong to the order Hymenoptera, family Vespidae.
2. Life Cycle
(1) Overwintering
Before winter:
- Male and worker wasps die
- Only fertilized queens overwinter in warm sheltered areas
(2) Reproduction
In spring:
- Overwintered queen begins nest building
- Lays eggs → new workers emerge (“生”)
(3) Development
- Wasps are carnivorous
- Workers feed larvae with caterpillars and other insects
(4) Nesting
- Wasp nests are inverted lotus-pod shaped or globular
- Made from chewed plant fibers mixed with saliva
3. Risks
- Wasps possess a venomous sting and can sting repeatedly
- Venom contains neurotoxins and enzymes
- Severe stings can be life-threatening
- Usually non-aggressive unless the nest is threatened
Summary
“生马蜂” describes the entire cycle of wasp life—from egg to larva to pupa to adult.
In traditional medicinal liquor, it is used to treat acute wind-damp painful conditions, though caution and professional supervision are strongly recommended.
